María del Carmen Herrera Caseiro, Cuba’s ambassador and permanent delegate to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), signed a message in Paris addressed to Pope Leo XIV. The message marks the occasion of his upcoming official visit to the Organization’s headquarters, scheduled for this coming Friday, September 25th, in the French capital.
According to the Cubaminrex portal, the visit is taking place at the invitation of UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany and will focus on human dignity, peace and dialogue.
As part of the initiative, a book containing messages of peace from member states will be presented to the Supreme Pontiff.
The Cuban delegation contributed a text that evokes the thoughts of the historic leader of the Revolution, Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz—during the year of his centenary—and reaffirms Cuba’s commitment to peace, sovereignty, and human dignity, while also denouncing the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States.
In the message, Herrera Caseiro stated that building peace in the minds and souls of people is an urgent necessity to ensure a world of dignity, solidarity, and cooperation.
The diplomat noted that Cuba maintains historic ties with UNESCO spanning eight decades, grounded in principles shared with those promoted by the Cuban Revolution since its inception.
She pointed out that the Cuban people have endured a harsh blockade for over six decades that severely impacts their development, and highlighted that the Island’s resistance is strengthened by the support of those who cherish peace and justice worldwide.
